Dr. Rose Liu focuses her practice on patent prosecution and counseling. She prepares and prosecutes domestic and foreign patent applications, evaluates issues related to patentability, validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate. Her representative fields of technology include optics, optoelectronics, LiDAR systems, virtual reality and augmented reality, semiconductor processing and devices, photovoltaic devices, global positioning systems (GPS), automatic vehicle guidance systems, machine learning, neural networks, telecommunication, radiotherapy optimization, and computer graphics animation.
Prior to entering law school, Dr. Liu worked as a patent agent with the firm where her experience included drafting patent applications and preparing amendments and responses to Office Actions. Prior to joining the legal profession, Dr. Liu conducted research as a postdoctoral fellow and then as a scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. She was an assistant professor at Michigan State University, where she supervised Ph.D. candidates’ research and taught optics and other undergraduate physics courses. Her research focuses primarily in the area of photoelectron spectroscopy studies of novel materials, such as high temperature superconductors, using synchrotron radiation. She also served as an optical engineer for Agilent Technologies and Optical Associates Inc.
Dr. Liu was recognized as a Northern California “Rising Star” in 2020 for Intellectual Property by Super Lawyers magazine.
Dr. Liu is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
